SLAMinutes 2017 Special
22nd January and 5th February 2018 at the Arcola Theatre
What a year! I mean, really, what happened? Why? How? And what didn’t happen, that should have?
SLAMinutes is back with a BUMPER edition in the New Year: a compilation of all the hits and the s**ts of 2017! Here are some of the ‘greatest’ (in no particular order):
- Donald Trump.
- The General Election.
- Grenfell Tower.
- Terrorism: Ariana Grande, Borough Market, Westminster, Finsbury Park Mosque.
- Weinstein: we finally stood up and spoke out.
- Article 50 Activated.
- Keith Chegwin died.
- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got engaged.
- Same sex marriage legalised in Australia.
And so, so much more: there have been hurricanes, opposing communities coming together in support, giant spotlights shone on social injustices, we lost David Cassidy, we found our voices.
After the bombing of the Manchester Arena, thousands of Mancunians gathered in the city centre to show their support. After a minute’s silence for the victims, one solitary voice began to sing Don’t Look Back in Anger. That voice was then joined, in a show of goose-pimple inducing solidarity, by thousands and thousands more. It hit home. That’s what voices do.
So once again we are looking for 30 Writers: playwrights, spoken word artists, comedians and singer-songwriters. To give us ONE MINUTE each of their voice, their perspective of 2017.
Do you look back in anger? What part of the 2017 raging fireball stands out to you? What is still twisting your melon? Filling you with joy? Let’s kick out 2017 hard and bring in 2018.
Deadline for submissions: 7th January 2017
